Fountain of youth: How do we live longer, and better?

We all want to live long lives, but maintaining a high quality of life is equally important. Will we have enough savings to live comfortably or will we slip into poverty? Will new living situations bring us closer to our partners and family members or will they split us apart? Can we continue to live healthy and fulfilled lives well into our golden years or are we destined to become a burden for our families and society to bear?

What can we do, as individuals, to preserve our health, finances and domestic happiness as we transition into retirement? With considerations as varied as housing, health care usage, income, elder care, sexual identity and changing family situations, it’s a complicated issue that needs to be taken seriously.

On February 7, 2012, we held a provocative dialogue about ageing at the Surrey Arts Centre. Our panel shared unique perspectives on the issue before opening it up to the audience for a wider discussion.
