Production Narrator for Access & Diversity at UBC

Imagine more

Access & Diversity works with the University to create an inclusive living and learning environment in which all students can thrive. We provide leadership in examining policies, processes, and programs through the lens of diversity. We work with students, staff, and faculty to build a community for all.

Position Description

What will volunteers do?

The Crane Library, Access & Diversity UBC is seeking volunteers to narrate academic materials for persons with print disabilities. The over 7,000 volunteer hours our narrators give each year, enable us to narrate and produce clients’ books in a timely and professional manner. Every volunteer is needed in order to serve our clients. Volunteer contribution is highly respected and appreciated. We require a minimum two-hour commitment at the same time each week.

Benefits to volunteer – what will they learn, who will they meet, SWAG etc:

Our volunteers read a variety of university–level texts; we compensate their travel with either a parking voucher for the North Parkade or bus tickets; we have two events a year to celebrate our volunteers’ commitment and hard work, a summer social and a winter social. We provide ongoing training in the form of workshops every two months. We have coffee, tea and hot chocolate on hand and we are always happy to see and help our volunteers.

Reports to: The Alternate Format Production Assistants
