Mentorship Program
Become a mentor
UBC Students need to hear your stories. Throughout the school year, there are a number of ways for alumni to connect with students here on campus and help them as they decide upon career paths and what they can do after they graduate. Don't you wish they had these programs when you were a student? The mentor program helps alumni stay connected with their university. Through lunches, panel discussions and other events, alumni (aka mentors) get together with UBC students and discuss the opportunities and pitfalls of the world of work.
It's a great way to give something back. Why not start creating new memories?
Programs and Events
ACE” - Arts Career Expo and “Beyond the BSc” - Science Career Expo
As an alumni panelist, you can meet Arts and Science students and help them learn the value of a Bachelor degree by sharing your story. Many students do not understand the potential of their UBC education. Share your experience at Arts Career Expo or Beyond the BSc and help foster career development for students.
Panels are organized by industry and events are driven by education background. Science students have discussed career fields like: biotechnology, environment, alternative medicine, health care and business.
Arts students have featured career topics on: public sector, communications, arts and culture, business, not-for-profit, environment, film, law, education and business.
We are always looking for alumni to come out and share their stories with our students.
Science Mentor Lunch – The Three Course Connection
We know that many employment opportunities today are obtained via networking and connections. The Three Course Connection aims to enable students to meet and communicate with UBC alumni about specific academic interests and career queries in a smaller, more interactive setting--a business lunch. The lunch takes place over three courses: during each course, students meet and communicate with a different alumnus and fellow students. In between courses, alumni switch to a different table, where they are greeted by another group of five students. This is a great chance to reconnect with your Alma Mater and some students who are just like you were not long ago over lunch.
UBC – VSB Transition School Mentor Program
Are you passionate about what you do? The UBC-VSB Transition Program: Early Entrance to University for Academically Highly Gifted Students is looking for UBC graduates that were passionate about what they studied while at school. Perhaps you have turned it into a career or maybe it is now your favourite hobby? Participants of the Transition program are between 13 and 15 years old and will be choosing university majors and career paths already. They need your help. For this program, mentors will be expected to meet with the student one on one at least twice. Some mentors may even find it useful to take the student to their work for a tour and a chance to see what the world of work is really like. Orientation and other support is available from the teachers in this program.
