No! Anyone can register for and attend Alumni Weekend. Some of our programming is aimed predominantly at UBC alumni, but Alumni Weekend offers something for everybody!
Visit the Alumni Weekend website to register online and find information about the day of activities. Everyone will register for General Admission, which will get you a name badge that grants you free entry into attractions on campus and our main programming, with the exception of RSVP sessions such as reunions or events with food/drink. Yes, everyone needs to be registered for Alumni Weekend. Once you fill in your information on the registration page, you can hit the button at the bottom that says ‘save and add another registrant’. Once you have entered everyone’s details hit ‘save and continue.’
You will still need to register for Alumni Weekend, which grants you General Admission to the day’s events. This means you can attend as few or as many events as you would like.
You will still need to complete the registration process – this will ensure you have a name badge available at the Registration Desk on the day. Your name badge will get you free entry into MOA, the Botanical & Nitobe Gardens, and the Beaty Biodiversity Museum.
Of course! Not only do we have many events in our main programming geared for children, there are also family-friendly activities running throughout the day at the UBC Bookstore, Beaty Biodiversity Museum and University Fair – including bouncy castles! Family-friendly activities are marked
on the schedule.
No, it is free to register for and participate at Alumni Weekend.
There are a couple of events which do have a charge (i.e. some reunions, Wine Appreciation, Jane Coop & Friend music concert, and the Celebration of Peter Loeffler theatre performance), and the Canopy Tour, which offers a discount to registrants. Costs are indicated on the online schedule in the event descriptions.
The show must go on, so bring your galoshes! Most of our sessions are held inside, so they are unaffected by the weather.
Registration is open at 8:30 am on the day of event.
You need to come to the registration desk first to pick up your name badge which will allow you free admission into the events and attractions for the day. The registration desk is located in the Student Union Building.
University Fair is the central hub of Alumni Weekend and is located at the Student Union Building. It is home to the registration desk, food and drink outlets, entertainment and information booths about key university organizations and services.
The outdoor AMS BBQ, which is located on the north plaza of the SUB will be open offering burgers (turkey or veggie burgers too!), drinks, fruit cookies and chips for very reasonable prices.
Many other AMS and UBC food outlets will be open too. They are all marked on the UBC Alumni Weekend campus map (PDF – 1MB)
Please arrive at the venue for your tour ten minutes prior to your tour start time. A volunteer will be on hand to assist you.
There will be shuttle buses leaving from the north side of the SUB running regularly on a set route. Check out the route on the map you receive at the registration desk, or download the map (PDF – 1MB) ahead of time.
Shuttle buses will run regularly around campus, departing every 10 minutes.
We are pleased to offer Alumni Weekend attendees complimentary parking in the North Parkade. You will need to provide the attendant with a parking pass (available at the registration desk) as you exit.
If you plan to bring your bike to Alumni Weekend, take advantage of the numerous bike racks around campus. Find the locations here. Bring your own bike lock!
Exact location of many events will not be confirmed until closer to the event date. There will be full details of locations on the website about one week before Alumni Weekend as well as at the registration desk on the day of the event. Please remember to make your first stop the registration desk so you can pick up your name badge and learn of any last minute changes.
There will be campus maps given out at registration on the day of and there will be plenty of volunteers to help you find your way to different events.
Yes, there is accommodation on campus. There are a variety of private suites and shared apartments. For more information, visit the UBC Conferences website.
