Mentor a student through Beedie Luminaries

This fall, students will be joining our school through Beedie Luminaries – a social-profit enterprise designed to remove barriers and provide financial assistance of $44,000 each as well as wrap-around support to promising students who are facing financial adversity. Recognizing that only 30% of students from low-income families attend post-secondary, Beedie Luminaries aims to level the playing field by supporting students who are ready to make a positive change in their lives but are constrained by circumstance. To date, Beedie Luminaries has awarded scholarships to over 600+ BC students, including new scholarships for single parents (SPARK) and refugees and immigrants (RISE).

An integral part of Beedie Luminaries support is the Mentorship Program. The goal is to connect each student with a mentor – someone who will walk with the student on their academic and personal journey and make them feel that they have someone in their corner who will listen, provide support, guidance, and champion their academic and life endeavours.

As a mentor, your support can be vital in building a foundation for success that will last beyond these students’ post-secondary experience. A continuous relationship with a mentor is essential to students’ success, and as such, Beedie Luminaries asks for a minimum two-year commitment from each volunteer. Mentors and mentees can meet virtually, in person or a mixture of both, but mentors must be BC based.

This is a significant opportunity to positively influence young lives in such a rewarding way!

“Beedie Luminaries has been an excellent program and I think that the relationships with the mentees I’ve built will continue beyond the program. Through the great match, it has been a real pleasure for myself and my mentee.”
