Send Cheer and Encouragement to Local Seniors this Holiday Season

This holiday season, THE A PROJECT is partnering with the Seniors Come Share Society and Tapestry Wesbrook Village to bring cheer and encouragement to local seniors who may be facing isolation.

Even with some ability to connect in person, many seniors are still feeling disconnected. For those without family or friends remaining or living nearby, the holiday season can be a sad and lonely time. As you begin to prepare your own holiday cards, consider sharing kindness and encouragement with these local seniors struggling with isolation.

“During the pandemic seniors have found themselves greatly isolated and in need of comfort and companionship. [Projects like this] will ensure that no senior is feeling left behind during the holiday season.”
Shannen Kealy, Volunteer Programs Coordinator, Seniors Come Share Society

“Many of the residents at Tapestry at Wesbrook Village studied, worked, and lived near and around UBC … An initiative like this reminds them of the UBC community and the connections that have been made – even if they do not know the person who wrote the card, it shows that the UBC community looks out for each other.”
Natalie Wallace, Wellness Supervisor, Tapestry Wesbrook Village

These holiday cards will be shared with seniors across the Lower Mainland through the Senior Come Share Society’s holiday hamper program and with residents of Tapestry Wesbrook Village. Thank you for sharing your kindness and encouragement with our local seniors this holiday season.

How to Participate:

1. Pick or Make Your Cards

Decide if you are going to use purchased cards or create your own.

TIPS:

    • Be sure to use a non-denominational holiday card design.
    • If you create your own cards invite your family or friends to get involved.
    • Designs can be as simple or intricate as you want – just have fun with it!

2. Share a Holiday Message

Write a kind and encouraging holiday message to bring joy and connection to a local senior who may be feeling isolated this holiday season.

TIPS:

    • Be yourself! Sincere and personal messages have the most impact. Consider sharing your favourite holiday activity or tradition, or invite your family to contribute stories or poems.
    • Do not address a particular person. Instead use a simple greeting such as “Hello” or “Dear Friend”.
    • Keep printing tidy and text large.
    • Sign cards with your first name, degree and graduation year.
