Stephen R. Brooks, BA’92

Stephen BrooksStephen R. Brooks is currently the Chief Financial Officer of The SIM Group, having joined the company in 2017.  The SIM Group is a film and television production and post-production company headquartered in Toronto, with offices in New York, Atlanta, Los Angles, and Vancouver.

Prior to joining The SIM Group, Brooks spent many years in the sports and entertainment industry.  He joined the National Hockey League’s Ottawa Senators as Chief Financial Officer in 2016.  As part of his role, he was involved in the transaction to bring the club’s American Hockey League affiliate to Belleville, Ontario.

Prior to his arrival in Ottawa, Brooks spent the previous seven years with Major League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre.  He began his career at the Blue Jays in 2009 as vice-president, finance, and administration and was responsible for the financial operations of the club and stadium in addition to the team’s spring training facilities in Dunedin, Fla.  In 2011, he was promoted to the role of senior vice-president, business operations where his responsibilities expanded to encompass all of the business side of the organization including ticket sales and service, corporate partnerships, marketing, merchandising, community initiatives, stadium operations, capital improvements, budgeting and forecasting with overview of finance, human resources, and IT.  He represented the Blue Jays at all league CFO meetings in that capacity.

Prior to his career in professional sports, Brooks spent five years with Rogers Communications in Toronto as corporate controller of the Media division and as director, financial reporting for the consolidated operations of Rogers Communications Inc.  He joined Rogers after spending 10 years in public practice with Deloitte and Touche LLP; four years as senior manager in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice in New York and six years in the Vancouver office where he began his career.

Brooks has also been a board member of various not-for-profit enterprises including the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, alumni UBC and the Canadian Mental Health Association, York Region.

A Chartered Accountant (Ontario and British Columbia), Chartered Professional Accountant (Ontario and British Columbia) and Certified Public Accountant (Illinois), Brooks is an alumnus of the University of British Columbia (BA’92) and the Harvard Business School (AMP 184).

Stephen and his wife Connie reside in Toronto with their two sons, Charlie and Henry.
